This Billionaire Property Developer from Melbourne wants us all to be unemployed.

Tim Gurner, a billionaire Australian developer with a personal net worth of over $700,000,000 who gained notoriety for a 2017 rant about millennials being unable to afford homes because they buy avocado on toast, has returned to prominence this week after sharing his dystopian wishes for the middle-class world in the future.
In a video from a conference held by the Australian Financial Review, Gurner suggests that governments around the world should raise the unemployment rate by “40, 50 percent,”, and that employees need to be reminded of their place in the workforce.

“We need to see unemployment rise,” Gurner said.

“Unemployment needs to jump 40-50 percent in my view. We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around. There’s been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around.”

Former Presidential candidate, Andrew Yang has discussed the feasibility of a Universal Basic Income to be implemented.

However, if UBI was imposed by "world governments" as a consequence of Tim's above world view, it would only give recipients less of a reason to work, development of their skills, or improvement of their situation in life.

This failure to understand a key aspect of human nature makes his views a destructive policy for the very recipients it is intended to help.
